| Craigleith, Gaelic for 'Rocky Bay' is home of 'The Depot', a rail station built in 1878 that transported skiiers from Toronto to ski at Blue Mountain in the 1930's, 40's and 50's. The Georgian Trail, a 32 km hiking and cycling trail runs through the heart of Craigleith. On a stormy November night in 1872 a steamer called The Mary Ward floundered on the shoals while the residents of Craigleith risked their lives to row out to the sinking ship and rescue her passengers. Fossils, a Provincial Park, windsurfing, history, lilac groves and people with great big hearts makes Craigleith a landmark spot to visit and live. |
